Raising forensic awareness.
At the moment, we offer forensic awareness training for law enforcement, including police officers and scenes-of-crime officers. However, we encourage booking requests from barristers and other interested parties.
The course runs over two days and includes theory and practical classes. In addition, all students receive a pocket-size "forensic field guide" at no additional expense.
The topics covered include:
- Forensic archaeology
How do forensic scientists locate evidence at a crime scene? Apply basic archaeological principles, techniques and methodologies involved in locating and recovering evidence. - The process of decomposition and the post-mortem interval
What are the stages of human decomposition and what implications might they have in a criminal investigation? Find out more about the elaborate and elegant process of tissue breakdown. - Forensic physical anthropology
Analyse human bones to determine cause of death, as well as the age, gender and any pre-existing health conditions of the deceased. - Fingerprint examination
Experiment with various fingerprint enhancement techniques and classify fingerprints by patterns and minutiae. - Forensic ecology
Nature is forensics' silent ally. How can species associated with foraging and tissue consumption reveal circumstances of death? - Environmental profiling and trace evidence
